The Arabic Language was a world language in the Abbasid Era where the Islamic civilization flourished.  The Arabic Language was the language of that civilization. Books were translated to this language from Greek and Persian and scientists used it to write in medicine, engineering, mathematics, sciences and others. The Arabic Language transferred those sciences to Europe, thus it was the basis of the modern Western civilization.

Then, the Arabs experience eras of weakness where they drifted away from their religion and abandoned the  Classic Arabic Language and used accents.  Later, the imperialism came and fought against the Islamic Culture and the Classic Arabic Language and encouraged accents. In this way, there  Egyptian, Moroccan, Syrian accents, etc. This led to the dissipation of Arabs and separating them from each other. So, if an Arab traveled from his country to another Arabic one he would face some difficulty in communicating with the people of that country if they spoke in their accents. The full contact between them cannot take place unless the speech is in Classic Arabic.

It is different today, as the accents weakened and the classic Arabic is strengthened. This is due to education and the modern means of communication.
